MISSED CONNECTION: Some things in life are such coincidences.
Last Thursday I was supposed to meet up with my group mates for our ensemble rehearsal at 4 PM. However my friend pushed the time back by half an hour, and I already made plans for 5, so we only had 30 mins of rehearsal left.
My phone was running low on battery so I left it home to charge before I left for the rehearsal. It turns out that my friend ended up cancelling the rehearsal, but I never saw the message.
So I headed to the rehearsal room, and there was a person playing piano there. He asked me if I had the room booked, and I told him that my friend did, but he could stay and practice until my group mates came.
I tuned my violin and set up my group’s seating in front of the piano. We made a little bit of small talk, I sat in my spot next to the piano, and waited for my group mates to arrive as the guy continued to practice piano. He played well, from what little I knew about piano playing. It was a little awkward sitting next to someone playing piano when I just met them, and like so, half an hour went by.
I was a little miffed that none of my group mates showed up, though I had the sneaking suspicion that they cancelled on me. The guy was very nice about me sitting there awkwardly, and before I left, we chatted a bit more about our programs and the courses we’re taking/have taken. Like so, I made a new friend.
I’ve never seen this person practice in the rehearsal room before, so it was such a coincidence that we met. I don’t know if I’ll ever run into him again, but at least he was a pleasure to meet.
This is the cutest thing I've read in forever.
ReplyDeleteWish it had been me, pianists always need violin accompaniment, makes everything better.
